In fact, there is no place in Nuremberg so far where video art is presented continuously and exclusively as part of the public space. So one can be happy that this will be different from September 2010 on. And whether as a speaker, artist, visitor or sponsor - it is a very special pleasure to participate in innovative visions and projects that think beyond our own horizon and that of the metropolitan region.

The art project "VIDEOworkCASE" also makes sense in terms of history: because video art has its roots and beginnings in the early 1960s in America and especially in Germany. The video artist Nam June Paik, who is also often referred to as the father of video art, created his first video installation in 1963 at the Galerie Parnaß in Wuppertal. In the same year, the environment "6 TV Dé-coll/agen by the German artist Wolf Vostell could be seen in New York. During this time, the legendary and unfortunately early deceased Gerry Schum also produced in 1969 and 1970 for the first television gallery with the title "Fernsehgalerie Berlin Gerry Schum" each a program for German television. Special contributions of international artists such as, Rinke, Rückriem, Ruthenbeck, Beuys, Serra, Sonnier, Weiner, Merz and Walter was produced for it. "One of our ideas is to communicate art instead of owning art objects." said Gerry Schum. In 1971 he opened the first video gallery in Düsseldorf with production and distribution.

Video art can be many things and although we now encounter it on the IPhone, mini-LCD and digital picture frames, it is still part of the essence of this art genre that it also manifests itself in the form of video installations or video sculptures. The two opposing glass cuboids at Willy Brandt Platz seem virtually predestined for this.

From Bruce Nauman to Matthew Barney to Pipilotti Rist, from Heike Baranowsky to Daniel Sabranski - there are numerous artists who deal with this exciting and contemporary medium. Perhaps we will encounter one or the other in Nuremberg with a work at Willy Brandt Platz. Cooperations with institutions specializing in media art, such as the Videonale in Bonn, the globally unique ZKM - Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe, the Julia Stoschek Collection or even the Neues Museum in Nuremberg would be conceivable and desirable in the long term.

Eva Schickler Art Historian M.A.
Nuremberg, 29.6.2010

Eva Schickler Kunsthistorikerin M.A.
Nürnberg, den 29.6.2010

> Informationsvortrag, Vor-Eröffnung/discourse, Pre-opening

https://videoworkcase-klaushaas.weebly.com/news/gt-vortrag-vor-erffnungdiscourse-pre-opening

https://videoworkcase-klaushaas.weebly.com/news/gt-vortrag-vor-erffnungdiscourse-pre-opening#comments

vortrag

        * VIDEOworkCASE by/by Klaus HaasVideo art in public spaceThe pre-opening of the information lecture for therealization of the project VIDEOworkCASE was on:Tuesday, 29 June.2010 18.30 Uhr/Tuesday, 29 June, 6.30 pmWelcome/Greeting: Klaus Haas, artist, founder of the projectIntroduction/Introduction: Eva Schickler art historian M.A. * VIDEOworkCASE von/by Klaus Haas Videokunst im öffentlichen RaumDie Vor-Eröffnung des Informationsvortrags zurVerwirklichung des [...]

* VIDEOworkCASE by/by Klaus Haas
Video art in public space

The pre-opening of the information lecture for the
realization of the project VIDEOworkCASE was on:
Tuesday, 29 June.2010 18.30 Uhr/Tuesday, 29 June, 6.30 pm

Welcome/Greeting: Klaus Haas, artist, founder of the project
Introduction/Introduction: Eva Schickler art historian M.A.

* VIDEOworkCASE von/by Klaus Haas
Videokunst im öffentlichen Raum

Die Vor-Eröffnung des Informationsvortrags zur
Verwirklichung des Projektes VIDEOworkCASE war am:
Dienstag, 29.
